What is UniFi Access and what can it control?

UniFi Access replaces mechanical keys with electronic access control. At its simplest it manages the front door, but it scales to multiple doors, and with the right hardware to gates and lifts, all from one place. You set who can enter which door and when, revoke access instantly when someone leaves, and see a log of every entry. For a growing business, that beats reissuing keys and hoping the old ones come back every time staff change.

How do staff unlock doors?

Whatever suits the site. UniFi Access supports unlocking by phone, by NFC card or fob, by PIN on the reader, and by a hands-free wave on supported readers. Most businesses mix these, for example phones for staff and a PIN or card for contractors and deliveries. Because credentials are managed centrally, adding or removing someone is a few clicks rather than a trip to cut or collect keys.

Does UniFi Access integrate with cameras?

Yes, and that pairing is where it earns its keep. When Access and Protect run on the same platform, an entry or exit event can be linked to camera footage of that door at that moment, so you are not scrubbing through hours of video to see who used a door. For businesses that care about both who was authorised and what actually happened, running the two together is far more useful than either on its own.
