Website Redesign Sydney | 4iT
A website redesign rebuilds an existing site to fix what is holding it back: slow load times, a dated look, poor mobile experience, or a structure that no longer matches the business. 4iT redesigns WordPress sites for Sydney SMEs with the hosting, security, and search rankings protected through the move, so you come out the other side faster and safer without losing the traffic you already have.

Key facts
- A redesign that changes URLs without 301 redirects is the single most common way businesses lose their Google rankings overnight.
- Most SME redesigns in Australia land in the AU$3,000 to AU$10,000 range in 2026, similar to a new build, because the work is comparable.
- Core Web Vitals (loading, interactivity, visual stability) are a Google ranking factor, so a faster redesigned site can rank better as well as convert better.
- A redesign is the right moment to move off an unmaintained theme or a pile of outdated plugins that have become a security risk.
- 4iT preserves your existing URLs and search equity during the move, or maps every changed URL with a redirect so nothing 404s.
When does a website really need a redesign?
A website needs a redesign when it is costing you enquiries, not just when it looks old. Read our guide on signs your website needs a redesign to help decide. The clearest triggers are a site that is slow on a phone, one that does not reflect what the business now does, or one built on a theme or page builder that is no longer maintained. Cosmetic boredom is the weakest reason to redesign; lost leads and mounting security risk are the strongest.
In our experience the sites most in need of a rebuild are the ones nobody has touched in three or four years. The design is only part of it. Underneath, the plugins are out of date, the backups stopped running, and the hosting is on an old PHP version. A redesign is a chance to fix all of that at once, not just repaint the front.
Will a redesign hurt my Google rankings?
A redesign only hurts your rankings if the migration is done carelessly, and the usual culprit is changing URLs without redirects. When page addresses change and the old ones are not pointed at the new ones with 301 redirects, Google treats them as dead, and the search equity you built up disappears. We map every existing URL before launch and redirect anything that moves, so rankings carry across.
Done properly, a redesign usually helps rankings rather than hurting them. A faster, mobile-friendly, well-structured site scores better on Core Web Vitals, which Google uses as a ranking signal. The risk is entirely in the execution, and it is avoidable.
What does a 4iT redesign include?
A 4iT redesign covers the rebuild, the migration, and the safety net around it. That means a refreshed design on a current WordPress build, a full content and URL map so nothing is lost, redirects for anything that changes, HTTPS, a move to monitored hosting with a web application firewall, and off-site backups from day one. We stage the new site privately, test it, then cut over, rather than rebuilding live and hoping.
Because we run managed IT for many of the same clients, we also check the things a design studio would not: that email deliverability is not affected, that DNS is clean, and that the site is not quietly leaking an old plugin vulnerability into your network. (We have seen a redesign fix the front page and leave a compromised backend running underneath. Not again.)
How long does a website redesign take?
A typical SME redesign takes four to eight weeks, with the timeline driven mostly by how quickly decisions and content are signed off. Migrating existing content is faster than writing new content from scratch, so a redesign that reuses most of your copy moves quicker than a ground-up rebuild. Larger sites, or ones with ecommerce, take longer and need more testing before cutover.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. If the URL structure still makes sense, we keep it exactly as is, which is the safest option for your rankings. If the structure needs to change, we redirect every old URL to its new home so no traffic or search equity is lost.
No. We build and test the new site on a private staging environment while your current site stays live, then cut over in a short controlled window. Visitors do not see a half-finished site.
It depends on what is wrong. If the structure and platform are sound and only the look is tired, a lighter refresh may be enough. If the site is slow, unmaintained, or on an old build, a full redesign is the better investment. We will tell you straight which one you need.
We migrate what is worth keeping and leave behind what is not. Existing pages, posts, and images are carried across and reorganised into the new structure, with redirects handling anything that moves or retires.
If your Sydney business is weighing up a redesign and worried about losing rankings in the process, that is exactly the part we get right. Call 4iT on 1800 367 448 or book a chat and we will review your current site first.
