There’s no need to download an external tool to check the drive performance in windows quickly from the command prompt.  Sure there are tools that will provide more detailed information but quite often if you’re just looking to find out whether the hard drive is bogging down your PC here is how you can do it.

Step 1

Open up the command prompt (as an Administrator – Important!)

Step 2

Enter the following:

winsat disk – drive c    (where c is the drive letter that you want to check)
