Reporting Spam Emails in Australia – Australia has some of the toughest anti spam laws in the world and fines have been issued out in the past for Australian companies which abuse this policy and send unsolicited commercial emails.
What’s important to note is that in this article we are talking specifically about reporting Australian Companies who are spamming other Australia Companies or Individuals. International spam is rife and unfortunately there isn’t much you can do about it apart from getting decent spam filtering. What you should be looking at reporting is Australian companies with an email address ending in .au sending unsolicited email. Quite often these will slip past a lot of spam filters in place as it doesn’t appear as common and less likely to be reported.
We receive a number of emails each day from Australian Companies trying to sell us anything from IT related products through to office cleaning supplies. It appears that quite often these are companies that:
- Haven’t spent the time to familiarise themselves with the Australian Law (or don’t care to)
- Got some new gun salesperson on that thinks they can send emails out where ever they like.

Fortunately the ACMA has set up an email address where to can forward SPAM emails through to. It is:
report@submit.spam.acma.gov.au
Once submitted you will receive a reply which looks like this:
If you’re using Outlook you can set up a quickstep to automate the reporting process for you. Alternatively save the email address as a contact in your address book and you’ll be ready to report spammers without wasting a lot of your time. Alternatively, if you want to submit an official complaint you can use the Complaint Form on the AMCA’s website.
ACMA is about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike. They are just another tax sponge.

I’ve reported countless spam emails originating from Australia to the ACMA, Many of which are connected to large companies. One company I have reported four times and have not seen any action, or the spam stop.
The spam, coming from a PR agency, over and over again, one of which I pointed out in my complaint reports that I have not given any email list distribution permission or requested to be added to mass distributed mailing lists via Opt-In permission.
The emails also don’t have a unsubscribe link and manual requests to stop spamming me via direct responses and direct emails to the management team were all simply ignored. (All reported to the ACMA in notes)
Pointed this company out many times to the ACMA in many reports. The spam keeps coming (PR SPAM) and the spammers go unhindered.

To date, Ive seen no action and no responses from the ACMA. The reporting address and form is a useless as using Googles spam reporting tool.
