{"id":763,"date":"2016-06-21T12:54:41","date_gmt":"2016-06-21T01:54:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/4it.com.au\/kb\/?post_type=article&#038;p=763"},"modified":"2016-06-21T18:50:45","modified_gmt":"2016-06-21T07:50:45","slug":"troubleshooting-rdp-connection-issues-port-number-change","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/4it.com.au\/kb\/article\/troubleshooting-rdp-connection-issues-port-number-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Troubleshooting RDP Connection Issues after Port Number Change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you have <a href=\"https:\/\/4it.com.au\/kb\/article\/change-rdp-port-windows-10-8-1-7\/\">modified<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/4it.com.au\/kb\/article\/add-additional-rdp-port-windows-10\/\">added an additional RDP port<\/a> for a workstation or server and are now having issues connecting via remote desktop, here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue.<\/p>\n<h2>These are the Top 3 Reasons why RDP is no longer working after the port number was changed<\/h2>\n<h3>Computer Hasn&#8217;t Been Restarted<\/h3>\n<p>After modifying the <a href=\"https:\/\/4it.com.au\/kb\/article\/how-to-open-the-windows-registry-editor-in-windows\/\">Windows Registry<\/a> have you restarted the computer? \u00a0The RDP port number change won&#8217;t take effect until you reboot.<\/p>\n<h3>Firewall blocking the new RDP port<\/h3>\n<p>Whether you are using the inbuilt Windows firewall or a third party firewall you will need to <a href=\"https:\/\/4it.com.au\/kb\/article\/add-additional-tcp-rule-windows-firewall-non-standard-rdp-port-windows-10\/\">create a TCP rule to allow connections on the new port number<\/a>. \u00a0Alternatively you can temporarily disable the firewall to test if this is the issue.<\/p>\n<h3>Port Number Entered as Hexadecimal<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/4it.com.au\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Correct-RDP-Port-Number.png\"><img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-764\" data-original=\"https:\/\/4it.com.au\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Correct-RDP-Port-Number.png\" alt=\"Correct-RDP-Port-Number\" width=\"567\" height=\"171\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When you changed the port number did you click on the Decimal Radio Check Box before entering the new value. \u00a0You can check this by browsing to the Port Number Value. \u00a0In the example above\u00a0the RDP Port is correct as it is the number in the brackets. \u00a0If the value is where it says 0x00000d3e it means that you entered it as Hexadecimal by mistake. \u00a0You can change this by right clicking on the Port number, choosing modify and ensuring the you have selected the <strong>Decimal<\/strong> radio box before entering the port number<\/p>\n<div style='text-align:left' class='yasr-auto-insert-visitor'><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you have modified or added an additional RDP port for a workstation or server and are now having issues connecting via remote desktop, here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue.
