In this tutorial we are going to look at how to remove \/ disable One Drive and One Drive for Business from Windows 10. \u00a0This is particularly applicable with swapping over from using One Drive to another cloud sharing service such as Dropbox and you want to clean up the system as to not cause any confusion. \u00a0These instructions are also applicable to Windows 8 and 8.1 with some minor changes.<\/p>\n

Sign Out of One Drive in Office<\/h2>\n

\"Sign-Out-of-One-Drive\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The first step is to sign out of One Drive in Office. \u00a0This will remove any connected accounts from the Save and Open Menu.<\/p>\n

Step 1<\/h3>\n

Open Word 2013 or 2016 and choose a blank document<\/p>\n

Step 2<\/h3>\n

Click on File and then Click on Account<\/p>\n

Step 3<\/h3>\n

Click on the Sign Out Button<\/p>\n

Note: You may also need to do this in Excel, Powerpoint etc… as well as sometimes signing out one application doesn’t sign out the other.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Clear Recent Documents In Office Applications<\/h2>\n

This is a good idea if you have files referencing your old One Drive location<\/p>\n

Open up Word<\/p>\n

Step 2<\/h3>\n

Right Click on any Recent document and choose\u00a0Clear unpinned Documents<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Open File Explorer<\/p>\n

Click on the View Tab<\/p>\n

Under\u00a0Privacy<\/strong> click on\u00a0Clear<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sign Out of One Drive Sync<\/h2>\n

Right click on the One Drive Icon in the taskbar<\/p>\n

Unlink any accounts and choose to stop Syncing any Sharepoint Libraries<\/p>\n

This will vary depending on what One Drive Accounts and Libraries you have configured<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Disable One Drive from Starting with Windows<\/h2>\n

Right click on the task bar<\/p>\n

Choose\u00a0Task Manager<\/strong><\/p>\n

Select the\u00a0Startup<\/strong> tab<\/p>\n

Step 4<\/h3>\n

Find any references to One Drive, right click and choose\u00a0Disable<\/strong><\/p>\n

Remove One Drive and One Drive for Business from the Sidebar<\/h2>\n

To remove One Drive and One Drive for Business from the sidebar this is easily accomplished using a registry change. \u00a0If you are familiar with editing the registry here are the value’s you need to assign:<\/p>\n

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows\\OneDrive] “DisableFileSyncNGSC”=dword:00000001<\/strong><\/p>\n

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Classes\\CLSID\\{018D5C66-4533-4307-9B53-224DE2ED1FE6}] “System.IsPinnedToNameSpaceTree”=dword:00000000<\/strong><\/p>\n
