Sometimes deleting a folder and it’s contents from Windows Explorer can take an eternity especially when dealing with large folders as it deletes each file one by one. \u00a0The faster way is to delete the folder from the windows command prompt.<\/p>\n

To delete a directory or folder and all it’s contents from the command prompt:<\/h2>\n

Step 1. Open an Elevated Command Prompt<\/h3>\n

Windows 7<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Accessories.<\/li>\n
  2. Right-click Command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.<\/li>\n
  3. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Windows 8 and higher<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

    1. Click the Start button .<\/li>\n
    2. In the Search box, type command prompt.<\/li>\n
    3. In the list of results, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Step 2. Type in the following command<\/h3>\n

      RD \/S \/Q \"The Full Path of Directory\"<\/code><\/p>\n

      Where the full path of the folder is the one which you want to delete. \u00a0E.g. “c:\\data\\folder”<\/p>\n

      Please be aware that the command to delete a folder on your windows computer is final. \u00a0The delete items won’t go to the recycle bin first and if you put in the wrong path you could be in trouble. \u00a0If in doubt, backup first!<\/span><\/p>\n
